About the Print:
This limited edition print has been created especially as a fundraiser to support Taring Padi’s collaboration with proppaNOW in Brisbane in early 2024. The print features the now-extinct Javanese Eagle or Garuda, rising above a scene that speaks equally to human rights and land rights. Indonesian culture and history is depicted on the left side of the print, and Australian on the right.  
 
Of their inspiration for the print’s design, Taring Padi have said:
“Indigenous and urban communities survive by strengthening the cultural traditions of care for each other that have been displaced by industrialist or capitalist culture, and by acknowledging that all humans are equal. 
 
Australia and Indonesia share a history of colonisation by Europeans, leading to the exploitation of people and natural resources, and the replacement of existing belief systems with Christianity and Catholicism. The difference in Indonesia is that, before that era, we experienced trade wars with Asian nations which also spread Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam, the last of which is now in power and informing all levels of government through to the general public.”
